The name Donnalucata comes from the ancient and countless fresh water springs that characterize the coast and also the sea. Al Idris, the famous Arab explorer, employed by Sultan Saladin, reported that he had discovered a source that gushed five times a day, at times coinciding with the hours of Muslim prayers. He called the source “Ayn-Al-Awqat”, that is, the source of the hours, which in Latin became “Donnalucata”.
