Legend has it that the name “Donnafugata” comes from a love story between a noblewoman and a knight, but in reality, it means “fled by women,” referring to the fact that the castle was a safe refuge for noblewomen fleeing persecution.
The castle stands out for its eclectic style, combining Neo-Gothic and Arab-Norman elements. The interiors are equally captivating, featuring richly decorated rooms, frescoed ceilings, and period furnishings. One of the main attractions is the library, which houses a vast collection of books and manuscripts.
